Thanksgiving is that wonderful time of year when we get together with our families to stuff our faces with turkey, potatoes, green-bean casserole, stuffing, cranberry sauce, different kinds of pie, and roll after roll after roll. Then, of course, there’s the oh-so-common food coma we enter into. But sometimes the eating part of Thanksgiving is all that people think about. What about the real reasons we celebrate Thanksgiving? The buckle-hatted pilgrims celebrating an American celebration? Wait, what? Thanksgiving originated in Europe? There were actually several “first Thanksgivings?” Forks weren’t used? They didn’t eat turkey? Or mashed potatoes? Or sweet potatoes, OR cranberries, OR pumpkin pie!?
I’m confused now. I don’t understand what Thanksgiving is about anymore. I’m gonna go with Thomas Jefferson on this one. Thanksgiving is the most ridiculous idea. Well, we have our families still! Here, let John Green, author of “The Fault in Our Stars,” tell you about Thanksgiving.
